Purpose of Role:

Responsible for the growth, sensory development, and overall well-being of children in their class (aged between 3 and 12 months). This role focuses on bridging the gap between infancy and early childhood through structured play and nurturing routines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Holistic Care: Assume all educational and caregiving responsibilities (including feeding and hygiene routines) for children in your class.
  • Trust & Security: Promote feelings of security and trust through a safe, loving, and fun environment where babies feel brave enough to explore.
  • Parent Partnership: Communicate regularly and honestly with parents regarding daily routines, milestones (feeding, sleep patterns, motor development), and overall well-being.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Work positively with other staff members to plan age-appropriate activities and maintain school-wide standards.
  • Professional Growth: Participate in regular development sessions and reflect on your teaching practice to lead your personal growth strategy.
  • Safety: Ensure the classroom is a hazard-free zone tailored to the curious nature of babies aged 3–12 months.
  • Physical Requirement Note: This is a physically demanding role requiring standing for extended periods, bending, running, sitting on the floor, lifting children, and actively engaging in both indoor and outdoor play.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Relevant Early Childhood Development (ECD) qualification (NQF Level 4 or 5 preferred).
  • First Aid: Current First Aid certification is a significant advantage.
  • Security: Clear criminal record.
  • Experience: 2–4 years’ experience teaching or caring for children in the 3–12 month age bracket.
  • Skills: Proven understanding of infant developmental milestones.
